About Egmont Boatworks

Where Superior Technology Meets Old World Quality & Craftsmanship" History Of The Egmont Boatworks Name

Egmont Key is nestled in the mouth of Tampa Bay, located on Florida's West Coast and is steeped in history starting with the way it got it's name. The 1700's brought tumulus times to Florida with the British and Spanish both fighting over it.

Egmont Key changed hands several times before the United States eventually was founded and included Florida in it's line-up of states. A true Tampa Bay Area company, Egmont Boatworks, with offices and factories in both St. Petersburg and Tampa, Florida, derived our name from Egmont Key.

Our name gives tribute to this pristine and true Florida Key that sits proudly in the entry way to Tampa Bay. Named after the Earl Of Sandwich, whose' last name happened to be Egmont, the little key housed groups of captured Seminole Indians that awaited transport to the Port of New Orleans long before the famous Spanish fort was constructed. The fort was constructed during the Spanish-American War and although it never saw battle it has been a historical part of Pinellas, Hillsborough and Manatee Counties. Now mostly in ruin the old Fort gave many hours of pleasure to families for the last 100 plus years. A visit to Egmont Key is always an adventure. Long a tremendous fishing spot, Egmont Keys' surrounding waters provide it's occupants and visitors with all the fresh seafood they need. Fishing Boats today surround the key on a daily basis to get in on the action. What better name for a fishing boat than naming it after an area that is alive with fish and fishing boats. Egmont Boatworks thought that since our boats are one of a kind that we should give tribute to a one of a kind Florida wonder, Egmont Key.
