Unbearable heat and humidity have taken a toll on the fishermen and fish early July. Normal shallow water fishing areas are too hot and have low oxygen levels for most fish to survive. The best baitwell systems can’t even keep bait fish alive in these conditions. Look for deep water cuts with good shade if possible; Weedon Island has many areas with deep water and plenty of overhangs. Early morning will also give you some advantages before the sun gets too high. Always fish the eastern shore first where it takes longer for the sun to reach the water and you will find the cooler water longer. Best bet will be Snook and Reds early with Trout and Mackerel action around mid morning. Night time fishing for Tarpon and Snook around the Gandy and Frankland bridges will turn on right after sunset. Good fishing and tight lines. Capt. Sergio Atanes S & I Charters, Inc.
