Fishing has been great in Tampa Bay! The secret has been fishing early matched with good tides. Most of your shallow water areas have been just to hot, so moving to areas with deeper water and good tide flow has been the key. Snook- Have been great this month. We have been catching good numbers and decent size fish around the spoil islands and passes. Good big bait is the trick to catching the trophy. You always need to have the right gear to land the big one, that’s why a #1 Daiichi Bleeding hook matched with 25lb fluorocarbon will prove to be deadly combination. Redfish- Have been schooled up on the flats, but you have to be very careful since the oxygen level in the flats is very low. Remember to watch your bait close in the well and revive the fish properly to ensure a successful release.

Cut bait has been the secret to catching the big boys. Best of the rest- Sharks have also been plentiful. I have been catching 6-ft. black tip and Spinner Sharks in the middle of Tampa Bay. Cut bait has been the ticket. Tight lines! Captain Jason Prieto is a native resident of Tampa and has fished Tampa Bay and its surrounding waters for the past 20 years.
