Hot and rainy is the weather pattern, so get out early and in by noon to beat the afternoon thunder boomers. Hit your best bait spot first, then go to your favorite pass for Snook. The Snook bite has been very good early in the morning. Use top water plugs like Skitter Walk or Top Dog; live pilchards will work well too.

On a day out with my friend, Captain Rob Wallzack, we caught several Snook up to 26" on an outgoing tide. The day before this we caught several Snook that were up to 32".

On a charter last week with Charlie Phillips, and girl friend Wendy, we caught some nice Trout to 21", four Snook to 20" and a 32" Redfish to complete the inshore slam. Not a bad ½ day trip.

As the water cools with all the rain the Trout will become more active longer into the afternoon. Target Trout on the grass flats in 2' to 5' of water. Use a popping cork with a D.O.A. Shrimp or a Hybrid Flurry under it. Live bait like shrimp and pilchards will work well too. If you want to catch a big Trout use a top water plug like a Storm Chug Bug or a Bomber Popping Shrimp.

Look for Redfish to start schooling up on grass flats. Use gold weedless spoons to make long casts at the edges of the schools of Reds. You can also use live shrimp under a popping cork and, of course, the old stand by ¼ oz jig with Key Lime Hybrid Flurry.

A mixed bag of fish can be found out on the beach. You will find Spanish Mackerel in big schools and some Kingfish, Tarpon, and Sharks mixed in, so use 40-50 pound fluorocarbon leader for the Spanish Mackerel and a short piece of wire for the larger toothy critters. Live threads will work best or 4" Hybrid Flurry swim bait. Use colors Bait Ball or Tuxedo.

Remember, it’s hot and humid, so make sure to hydrate with lots of water. Capt Steve Nagy (239)398-1528. www.Bonitaspringsfishing.com
