October has been a busy month with Halloween and the Great Calusa Blueway Festival. We've had a lot going on. Storytelling at the Earth and Spirit Gallery on Creative Coast Friday night was a hit. Many people came out at sunset to the gallery for stories and a visit from a Calusa ghost. We told about the rise and fall of the great Calusa Nation and about the alignment of planets for 2012. Many of you may be aware that in the year 2012, the planets will be in full alignment. This particular alignment happens about every 26,000 years. Of course, with this comes certain gravitational pressures and natural changes. It’s not all bad news, however; many ancient cultures prophesy a time of enlightenment and rebirth.

We also were lucky enough to work with the Naples Young Professionals on a Forest Walk on the 22nd. The group was raising money for the Boys and Girls Clubs of Collier County. We all met at Bonita Springs Riverside Park. The park has six artist cabins that make up a nice little Artist Colony and the historic Liles Hotel. The Liles houses the Bonita Historical Society Museum. They were kind enough to put on display several replica artifacts I donated to them and they opened their doors that night for the public and the group to check out. They have several period rooms and displays set up for public viewing. Once everyone got a chance to check out the cabins and museum we all met by the fountain and started our walk out into the Depot Park and then the Island Park. These parks are all adjacent along the river with a connecting walking bridge over the Imperial River. We walked and told stories and met a couple of Calusa spirit guides. They gave us a stargazing tour from the bridge and stories of 2012 and stories of alien visitors around a small fire in Island Park. I told stories of the lost civilization and their technologies. If you have not had a chance to visit these parks you are missing some really beautiful natural Florida landscapes.

On the 29th the Great Calusa Blueway Festival starts. At the time of this writing I am preparing for the festival. This is the premiere paddling festival of south Florida with dealers and participants coming in from all over the world. We are involved in the Bonita Springs River Festival as part of the Blueway festival on October 30. We (Calusa Ghost Tours) sponsored the Imperial River Challenge along with the, City of Bonita Springs, Florida Paddlesports, New Beginnings (DJ service), and Adventure Kayak Magazine. The Fishing Tournament in Matlacha will be on the 6th with the Captains Meeting being held the night before. We will be at Bluegrass in the Matlacha Park on the 7th offering free demos of our kayaks as part of the festival also, come over and see us.

On November 12, Craig Timbes (Snook Cowboy) will be doing stargazing and 2012 stories at the Earth Spirit Gallery, Pine Island for Creative Coast Friday Night. The stories start around sunset; contact the Earth and Spirit Gallery for details at 239-282-1025. This is part of our planned Storyteller’s Corner for the Creative Coast Friday Nights. If you are a storyteller interested in telling your stories on one of these nights, contact me at or call 239-938-5342. Coming soon: Calusa Backwater Guide Co-op.

On November 12th and 26th I will be at Bonita Springs “Evenings in the Park” for an open arts and entertainment evening in Riverside Park. Art, food, entertainment, kayak rentals, tours, stories, and demos. This year we plan two art evenings in the park with themes from Hawaiian Night to Vegas Night throughout the season. The Artist Colony and the Liles Museum will be open to the public.
