My home port is Boca Grande and Summer fishing revolves around our red hot tarpon fishing. Many anglers don’t know that silver kings migrate up and down the length of Florida’s Gulf Coast. I have personally tagged tarpon that were re-caught up in Louisiana. Other fish tagged here were caught from the Keys up to the Carolinas. So, even though we enjoy the center of this action, opportunities exist all around our state; even the entire Southeastern USA! So, how can you get into the action?
The best way is to take some time to explore on the internet. You can get a good idea of what is involved and review some of the guides available. Please remember that some of these “experts” may be better at marketing than fishing, so do your home work! Talk to several and choose one or two that fit your needs. I know we are expensive; until you start buying boats, motors, tackle, bait, etc… you get the picture. A hundred dollars per hour for a hundred grand of equipment and decades of experience is a great deal. Just be sure you reserve the real “local” experienced guide.
This is a trip of a lifetime for many anglers. A dream trip, your shot at a giant gamefish. This is an adventure that will allow you to capture some memories that you can share with friends and family, plus treasure forever. What is that worth?
Tarpon around here average about a hundred pounds. They can jump faster, higher, and longer than you can believe. They do summersaults and twists you can see in only slow motion, if you are quick enough to capture the action on video. I am still awed by the giant silver kings’ acrobatics and power; even after thirty years of guiding here in Boca Grande! It’s thrilling to share the excitement and joy of the angler’s first tarpon. You can catch them on your own, but it will be a challenge and end up costing more most of the time.
We also enjoy some snook fishing now that will stimulate your adrenal glands. We did lose some fish, but we still have more than enough big trophy snook to satisfy your hunger. I have seen at least a hundred snook over ten pounds, in the last few days! We have redfish, but they are chased all over and not as easy or dependable as they used to be. Trout fishing is fine and they do taste great. Permit are out on the reefs and wrecks. Barracuda offer some excitement and are guaranteed to test your tackle. They jump and scream drag.
Best of all, if you have guest that doesn’t care about fishing our Gulf Coast offers beautiful beaches and plenty of places to shop or golf. This is really paradise and we are here to enjoy it!
Let’s Go Fishin’ soon.
