On Show Me the Fish Charters, fishing out of my custom 31 ft Morgan Sportfisherman, operating out of the Bradenton Beach Marina, we are encountering great action on large red grouper, scamp, Greater amberjack, mangrove, yellowtail and lane snappers, porgys, banded rudderfish, big barracudas, sharks. Best action on the calmer days is out past 100 ft. On the windy days fish closer in around 40 to 50 ft and there has been a lot of kingfish, mackerel, flounder, a variety of reef fish, plus catch-and-release of lots gag grouper and enormous amount of smaller red grouper. Catching all day long until it hurts. With gag grouper out of season not all is lost; there are still plenty of fish to fill the cooler for the meat man, the guys that want the meat trips. On the amberjacks, large live baits have been working the best with bluerunners my favorite, and with the red grouper we usually start out with squid and sardines [stink baits] for the party starters, and then drop down some live pinfish for the firetucks (huge red grouper). Always have your chum block deployed and flatlines out with a sardine for a king, cobia or blackfin tuna. The king mackeral should be around until it gets real cold; then they head south for the winter. But if we have a warm winter we could have smoking kingfish frenzy in January. Fishing offshore every trip is different and anything can happen. I am always amazed at what we get into out there. This weekend's weather looks perfect, so now is the time to come on out and get ya some.
