A Great Reason For Fishing

Fishing in Pine Island Sound has been as varied as the weather. When it gets warm the fish are on fire; when it cools they get lockjaw. Last month held three significant weather systems that kept the water stirred up and running up and down the thermometer. The fish haven’t established a “normal” pattern of feeding. Bear in mind this was last month and we should be on track for a phenomenal spring and summer season of fishing.

Since Snook season has been closed for three years, the population is as healthy as I have seen it in four years. Season should open on the West coast in September. Until then it’s all about the Redfish and Tarpon. I love a fresh “Blackened” filet of Red. On some of my charters, I have actually brought a cast iron skillet and pulled up to an island to cook one. It doesn’t get any fresher than that and you can’t buy that in a restaurant. While we wait patiently for Snook season to open we are going to fish the days away in anticipation of that three-inch thick filet of Snook laying on the grill top. While in S.W Florida make sure you give me a call and let’s “Live The Fish Story.”
